Five Places to Visit in Vienna

Vienna is the capital and largest city in the country of Austria. The city of Vienna is the economic, political, and cultural centre of the country. The city is located in the eastern part of Austria and it is close to the borders of Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The city of Vienna attracts about five million tourists a year with its beauty and many attractions.

1. Schönbrunn Palace – The palace is a former imperial 1,441-room Rococo summer residence in modern Vienna, Austria. The palace is also one of the most important cultural monuments in the country and since the 1960s it has been one of the major tourist attractions in Vienna. The palace and gardens expresses and shows the tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Habsburg monarchs.

2. Prater - This place is a large and fun public park that can be located in Vienna's 2nd district. The Wurstelprater amusement park and it is often simply called just "Prater", stands in one corner of the Wiener Prater and includes the Wiener Riesenrad. A good place to go to if you’re bringing your family along.

3. Vienna State Opera - The place is an opera house with a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century. The opera house is located in the centre of Vienna, and it was originally called the Vienna Court Opera. This building was the first major building that was commissioned by the Viennese "city expansion fund". The work was started on the building in 1861 and it was completed in 1869. If you have a chance, go visit the place because it’s really a beauty.

4. St. Stephen's Cathedral – The cathedral is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vienna and is also the seat of the Archbishop of Vienna, the current Romanesque and Gothic form of the cathedral that can be seen today in the Stephansplatz was largely initiated by Duke Rudolf IV and it stands on the ruins of two earlier churches. The cathedral’s architecture is really magnificent and a must see for architecture lovers.

5. Kunsthistorisches Museum - The place is an art museum in Vienna. The museum is crowned with an octagonal dome. The museum was opened around 1891 at the same time as the Naturhistorisches Museum, by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary. Once inside the building you will notice that the place is lavishly decorated with marble, stucco ornamentations, gold-leaf, and paintings making it beautiful and pleasant to look at. A good place to see if you want to kill some time.
